celebrate the wisdom and achievements senior citizens

June 19, 2008

Here are some interesting statistics pertaining to Senior Citizens. During 1950, there were 200 million people living above 60 years old and by the year 2000 that number had tripled to nearly 600 million. It is estimated that and by 2025 there will be over 1 billion senior persons. In 2002 the United Nations envisaged a Plan of Action for Aging citizens in which all governments jointly pledged to work for the security and well being of older people and create in them an awareness of their rights and privileges.

Older persons are generally sidelined, neglected, and in some cases even abused. The elderly need true love and care in their autumn years. October 1st is being observed as International Day of Older persons the world over and this day is deemed as an occasion to celebrate the wisdom and achievements senior citizens and to advocate for the rights of older people throughout the world. This International Day of older persons conceived by the United Nations is being observed on October, 1st every year starting from 1991. Older people have limited regenerative abilities and are more prone to disease, syndromes, and frequent sickness. In the total life span of an individual, old age is the last stage of human life when a person turns weak and infirm. This is the period of their life when they need a lot of care and support. If we share their loneliness and fears or at least empathize with them, they will feel really contended.

Age is often beset with physical problems and most times coupled with difficult situations to cope with. Do you feel healthy and lively or do you feel disoriented and tired? Most often as we get older, our bodies do not respond as normally as they used to. We tend to ignore symptoms, which get worse as time progresses. Diabetes is one of the diseases that attack the body when the pancreas either produces little or no insulin, or the cells do not respond appropriately to the insulin that is produced. Glucose builds up in the blood, overflows into the urine, and passes out of the body. Thus, the body loses its main source of fuel. The Senior Citizens Bureau offers various free services to the senior community in order to elevate, enhance and educate their lifestyles.

The SCB uses honest, principled methods of sharing information with our seniors. They spread the word about legitimate services, products and announcements via:

Safeguard the rights of elders

June 10, 2008

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day will be observed on June 15, 2008. This day should help us review and raise further awareness about elder abuse, neglect of elders and exploitation of senior citizens. However, our efforts towards raising awareness about wrongful treatment of older persons should be a continuing process and not confined to one day in a year.  As a nation, we have the responsibility to protect and preserve the dignity, rights, and financial security of elder citizens. On June 15, 2008 we should initiate fresh programs or further intensify existing programs to protect older people and safeguard the rights of elders. Organize seminars, workshops and press conferences to highlight the abuse of the elderly.

It is believed that many cases of elder abuse go unreported, because they often involve a family member exploiting an elderly relative, or because the old people feel too ashamed to admit that he or she has been physically abused or swindled by a family member or a known person. It is disheartening to note that each year hundreds of thousands of older persons are abused, and exploited by family members and others. Many victims are too old, frail, and vulnerable who cannot help themselves and rely on others to meet even their most basic needs. June 15, 2008 can be best observed by visiting a few helpless elderly citizens who may be at risk of elder abuse and offering them support. It may be worthwhile to carry out any activity that aims to create awareness of elder mistreatment, such as writing an article or a press release to your local newspaper.

The Senior Citizens Bureau is a national, non-profit community resource for the elderly, children of the elderly and other caregivers, advocates and professionals. The Senior Citizens Bureau is always happy to join forces with other organizations and advocacy groups that work toward the greater good of the senior community. If you or your company is interested in collaboration or linking of services, e-mail at: info@seniorcitizensbureau.com or call 832-230-1238. senior citizen activities

June 5, 2008

At an age when you have lived through most part of your life, it is not easy to keep your mind free of thoughts. All of us would have had our fair share of good as well as the bad times, but mostly, the disturbing thoughts are the ones that keep haunting us now and then. Sources of mental agony for the elderly are innumerable and may be anything from a non-supporting family to elder abuse problems. As the days pass, there are more and more news about elderly parents being ill treated by their own children and other relatives.

The only way to lead the rest of your life peacefully is to put an end to all these abuses yourself by getting enrolled in one of the senior citizens centers which provide elderly homes and other elderly care services. These organizations provide counseling options and the homes for elderly assistance take care of the senior citizens health by getting them involved in the right kind of senior citizen activities.

Senior Citizens Bureau is a non-profit organization, which ensures that all the senior citizens organizations referred by it provide complete elderly care and other elderly services. It offers resources and services on a national basis, which can be summoned by individuals from any location. It helps in leading the elderly into the right path and gives them the free and independent life that they deserve most. It also makes sure that all kinds of needs of the elderly are satisfied in the best possible way.

Services for the aged

June 3, 2008

There are wide ranges of adult care products that have entered the markets everywhere, starting from medicinal care products to other necessities for the aged. But all these products cannot be trusted as many of them may turn out to be quite unsafe to use. Such things cannot be taken a risk with, especially when it comes to elderly parents, and hence, anyone who is not experienced and knowledgeable about these things should not be allowed to select products for the elderly. Therefore, selecting adult care products must be left to the hands of the experienced.

Various centers for elderly services have a number of elderly caregivers who are experienced in providing elderly care and elderly services, and are the best when it comes to selecting adult care products. Having your parents live in elderly homes has many other advantages apart from this, as these homes for the elderly are the best in every aspect, when it comes to senior citizens health. One cannot get better than these centers for elderly care as far as caring for the elderly is concerned.

Senior Citizens Bureau is one such organization that focuses on providing the most optimal services for the aged. The main aim of Senior Citizens Bureau is to make the lives of the aged more easy and comfortable by providing maximum assistance. Apart from a 24-hour national hotline that makes all kinds of information and assistance available for the elderly, Senior Citizens Bureau also provides a complete online directory that lists various housing options, products and service providers.
